On the river Rhône's right bank, a gateway to Avignon, Les Angles was, some decades ago, used as a holiday resort. Avignon's inhabitants would come up to Les Angles to spend the week-end in their cabanons (the region's traditional small wooden huts). Nowadays the cabanons have been replaced by housing estates.
There remains, however, at the heart of the sprawling areas of new builds, a true jewel, in the form of the old village, still fiercely defended by its inhabitants. Perched atop a rocky spur, the old village, which dates back to the 14th century, will delight lovers of old stones, who will particularly enjoy the Gothic church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, the communal oven, the tower of the Mascs, the théâtre de verdure and the breathtaking views over the Rhône valley.
Villeneuve and Avignon, its closest neighbours, are ideal for adding a cultural dimension to your stay!
